Liberty Reading Workshop

INTRODUCTION

Liberty Reading Workshop began in the mid 1990's when I became aware, through a friend, of the frightening number of children who were going to school and not learning to read. At the time, my son was three years old and would soon be going to kindergarten. Like so many other parents, I assumed that he would learn to read when he went to school. What I learned was that this was not a safe assumption

Since then, I have read and researched various methods for teaching reading and their relative effectiveness. I have interviewed parents, teachers, and administrators and I have been teaching children to read, first as a parent, and also as a kindergarten teacher (uncertified), then as a private tutor and as a volunteer. I want to take this message to all parents: YOU CAN teach your children to read, regardless of your education or experience.

I did and so can you.
